JRN 4990 ANNOUNCEMENTS

 

Welcome to JRN 4990!

Check here weekly for announcements and updates.

First Mandatory Group Meeting is scheduled for Friday, Sept. 30, 8 a.m., Sprau 219.
Second Mandatory Group Meeting is scheduled for Friday, Nov. 4, 8 a.m., Sprau 219.

 

You must submit an application form to Dr. Steinke

(e-mail jocelyn.steinke@wmich.edu or

place in my mailbox on the 3rd Floor of Sprau Tower)

to register for this course.

Course Requirements:

Every Week:

1. Complete work as scheduled and requested by your internship onsite supervisor.

2. Keep weekly work log of all internship work and tasks. Remember you need to work a total of 40 hours for each credit hour.

3. By Friday at 5 p.m., submit a weekly log (use the weekly log forms) to jocelyn.steinke@wmich.edu.

4. Make and file copies of clips (print, audio, video). These will be reviewed during your individual conferences and will need to be submitted as part of your final portfolio.

5. Inform me of any questions or concerns.

 

Special Meetings and Deadlines:

Regular attendance at the mandatory group meetings is expected. These count toward your final grade, so be on time and be prepared. Group meetings will focus on issues related to working as an intern (professionalism) and career preparation (resumes, cover letters, interviews).

 

Group Meeting #1: Overview, Discussion of Professionalism Issues, Progress Updates, Story Critiques-- Friday, Sept. 30, 8 a.m., Sprau 219

Group Meeting #2: Resume and Cover Letter Critiques ,Job Searching and Interviewing Tips, Final Portfolio Instructions-- Friday, Nov. 4, 8 a.m. Sprau 219

 

Final Portfolio Due: Friday, Dec. 2, 5 p.m. - Turn in to my School of Communication Office mailbox on the 3rd Floor of Sprau Tower.

More details about the Final Portfolio will be forthcoming.

 

Grading:

You will receive a final grade after you turn in your final portfolio. You will be evaluated on 1) your overall productivity, 2) your progress toward your stated internship goals, 3) your attendance and participation at group meeting, 4) your resume and cover letter, 5) your ability to meet deadlines, 6) your overall professionalism and professional presentation of your portfolio, and 7) your internship supervisor's evaluation form.
