The Public Relations Society of America
Although PRO is not affiliated with PRSA, it is a great organization to look into as a Communication professional entering the field. It is the largest community of professionals in the field of public relations. This organization provides professionals of all levels of experience with the opportunity to network, find jobs, and gain leadership skills and professional recognition. There are four Chapters of PRSA in Michigan; the Central Michigan chapter in Lansing, the Detroit chapter, the West Michigan Chapter in Grand Rapids, and the White Pine chapter in Bay City/Saginaw. Membership dues range from $30-80, varying in each Michigan chapter. A PRSA also rewards members with discounts for businesses such as GEICO, FedEx, and Avis car rental.
There is also a branch of PRSA for students called the Public Relations Student Society of America (PRSSA). More than 10,000 students are members of PRSSA. Involvement in organizations such as PRO and PRSSA show a level of commitment to future employers when considering a resume for employment.
