My homage to The Blair Witch Project

Biography

       I grew up in a small town outside of Lansing and graduated 37th out of 85 students in 1986. After high school I attended Lansing Community College and graduated with a Associates in History. I transferred to WMU and began working towards becoming certified as a Secondary Teacher. I originally graduated with a double major in History and Political Science--Public Policy Concentration and a minor in Group Social Science. I didn't know if you wanted to teach History in Michigan you had to coach (preferably Football).
       I came back to WMU to earn a third major in English and a minor in Journalism and take "how to coach classes" (yes, classes like Advanced Football, Football/Wrestling, Advanced Baseball, etc).
       I taught for five years and coached 7th Grade Football, Little League, JV Baseball, Varsity and JV Wrestling, Forensics, Debate, Student Congress and advised the Literary Magazine, Writing Club and Student Environmental Club.
       My wife and I had our first daughter in 2002. I left teaching to be a stay-at-home Dad and return to school after being accepted into the Master's in Fine Arts in Creative Writing at Western Michigan University with specializations in Creative Nonfiction and Fiction. My wife and I had our second daughter in 2005. I also earned a Master’s in Literature from Western as well.

In the Fall of 2007, I began a PhD program at Michigan State University in Teaching, Curriculum and educational Policy. I am specializing in Children's literature, English Education and the teaching of writing.
