1.) To hurt or injure by maltreatment; ill-use.
2.) To force sexual activity on; rape or molest.

Sexual Abuse
Any type of sexual contact between an adult and a child, or an older child and a younger child.
It could just be showing genitals to a child.
In 2003 10% of cases reported were sexual abuse.

Physical Abuse
The most obvious form of abuse.
Any action that causes physical injury leaving marks.
In 2003 19% of all cases were physical abuse.

Neglect
Hardest type of abuse to define.
Occurs when adolescent doesn't have enough food, housing, clothes, medical care, or supervision.
In 2003 61% of cases reported were neglect.

Effects of Abuse on Adolscents
They have problems sleeping eating and concentrating.
They may perform poorly in school.
They may distrust others.
Some teens may become depressed.
They may abuse drugs, alcohol, or attempt suicide.
