| Assembly & Decoration |
- Prepare the icing. The recipe and method is as follows:
3 egg whites
1 ½ tsp cream of tartar
3 3 ½ cups powdered sugar
- Beat eggs
- Add cream of tartar
- Beat
- Gradually beat in sugar
- Have a secure base to build your gingerbread structure on. We recommend you purchase a cake stand from your local Hobby Lobby. This is so you can move your stucture around easily.
- For large structures, sometimes it is easier to decorate first and assemble later.
*Tip: Use strips of masking tape to cover areas that do not need icing. (FIGURE 1)
- We recommend using an icing bag for "gluing" together the gingerbread and for simple decorating. For an easy parchment paper icing bag, please refer to this website.
- If an icing bag is not available, you can use a butter knife to apply the icing.
- Before assembling, apply icing "glue" to one side of the joint. Leave to set for 30 minutes. This will make the pieces easier to stick together.
- Start with two sides and hold them together so that they meet at the joint (joints = where two sides come together). (FIGURE 2)
- Attach the remaining sides until the building is completed. If possible use an actual picture of the building as a reference. (FIGURE 3)
- Use remaining icing to fill in any gaps.
- Hurrah! It's done! (FIGURE 4)
