| General: |
The prerequisite
for this class is calculus, Math 1700. It will
also be helpful for this section if you have had a physics class. We
will try to include a good number of applications from science and
engineering in this class.
You are responsible for all material in the text and all material presented in class. This includes any material not in the text and all material in the text that was not presented in class. A list of topics may be available. It is expected that you will spend at least 2 to 3 hours outside class for every hour in class. Even though roll will not be taken, you are expected to attend all classes. A list of expectations will be available. You are expected to follow the policy on Academic Integrity in the catalog. Any violations will be forwarded to Student Judicial Affairs. The last day to withdraw is November 3, 2008. A tentative schedule may be available. |
| Calculator: | A TI-89 or TI-Voyage 200, graphing calculator, is highly recommended. We will use many of the extra features of these calculators, including their symbolic computation abilities. Because of this, you will be at a disadvantage if you have a less capable calculator. |
| Homework: | A list of problems to work will be on this web site. Although none of this homework will be collected, you are responsible for all of the problems. If you have any questions about problems, please ask them in class or in office hours. |
| On-line Homework: | There will be on-line homework assignments.
Most of these problems will be skill based problems. The

| Skills Test: | There is a test on Calculus I skills
required of all students in Calculus II. It will be given on
Friday, January 15 during class. If you do not pass this test
the first time (9 out of 12), you may retake the test twice during
the second and third weeks of the semester.
Students who do not pass the skills test will have their final grade reduced
by a half grade.

| Quizes: | There will a quiz every Friday except there will be no quizzes during exam weeks. They will be cover all of the material through the Tuesday before the quiz. No early or make up quizzes will be given. |
| In Class Work: | There will be assignments given to be worked in class. These may take from 10 to 50 minutes and will be graded. Some of these can be done in groups. The scores will be added to the quiz scores. |
| Exams: | Three tests will be given. The first exam will be on February 5, 2010, the second exam will probably be given on , and the third exam is scheduled for . |
| Final: | The final exam will be given on Wednesday April 28 from 10:15 - 12:15. It will be comprehensive. |
| Grading Policy: |
All quizes and
exams will following the following
outline. 50% of the questions are things you must be able to do, 25-30%
of the problems are things you should be able to do, and 20-25% of the
questions are more difficult. It is not uncommon for averages to be
around 60%.
To pass this class with a "C" you must demonstrate that you can do all the required material. Averages for a "C" may go down to 50%. Averages for an "A" may go down to 80%. The distribution of grades is as follows. The final exam is worth 28%, the exams are worth 17% each, and the total from the quizes and the in class work is worth 21%. |
