Dell:

Dell wants its name to ring from the desktop to the data center. One of the world's top suppliers of PCs, the company offers a broad range of technology products for the consumer, education, enterprise, and government sectors. In addition to a full line of desktop and notebook PCs, Dell offers network servers, data storage systems, printers, Ethernet switches, and peripherals, such as displays and projectors. It also markets third-party software and hardware. The company's growing services unit provides asset recovery, financing, infrastructure consulting, support, systems integration, and training. Dell generates nearly half of its revenues outside the US.

Microsoft:

Developer of a wide range of software for business, professional, and personal use, including operating systems, languages, applications programs, peer-to-peer network software, personal management, and games and entertainment; and manufacturer of computer hardware and CD-ROMs for the microcomputer marketplace and cordless telephone systems. The software is available for IBM PCs and compatibles, Macintosh, XENIX, and UNIX. Operating systems software includes MS-DOS, Microsoft Windows, Microsoft Windows NT, Microsoft Windows 95, 98, and 2000, Microsoft Operating System/2, Microsoft XENIX, and Microsoft LAN Manager. Languages include environments in Assembly, BASIC, C, FORTRAN, and COBOL for the MS-DOS environment. Applications software includes word processing, spreadsheets, graphics, communications, project management, entertainment and productivity products, pen products, and integrated programs, as well as the Visio line of drawing applications software (Visio Maps(tm), Visio Professional(tm), Visio Business(tm)) and technical drawing software (Visio Technical(tm)). Systems peripherals and accessories consist primarily of the Microsoft IntelliMouse(R). The company also produces multimedia products for systems and end-user applications; provides on-line electronic and Internet e-mail, advertising, and promotions services; provides web site announcement services; provides Internet television services; and produces computer related books. Parent/holding company with high-tech units involved in software development and Internet related services. Products and services are sold to multiple industries. The bulk of revenue is derived from activity in the computer software industry. This company was capitalized by private investment.
