This exhibition by Bill Davis, an emerging black and white photographer from Cincinatti, Ohio, is based soundly on his own expereinces. He suffered a car accident which left him in permanent pain and, consequently, his photographs make powerful use of body parts imagery. Through this experience Davis reminds the viewer that we take so much for granted the efficient functioning of our body. Bill Davis regards himself as a printmaker, rather than a photographer, although his photographic work is appealing to many people. The appearance of being hand made is vital to his work and he does not use electronic manipulation, rather he sets up his original shots, using various masks and frames, followed by a certain amount of 'painting with light' in the actual development process. |
