Community Dancing in the Nilgiri Mountains

All traditional Nilgiri communities have their dances, which are part and parcel of community ritual and celebration. They are usually group single sex affairs. Such dancing can be found on many of the rock paintings. Here you can see and hear a Lingayat Festival, with hired musicians, and local Lingayat men dancing.

The Quicktime video is higher resolution, but will take a longer time to download. The RealVideo version has a lower resolution, but will download very quickly.
